Questions to Ask a Home Builder

Transparency is the core of JB Crawford Construction and regardless of who you chose to be your custom home builder, we want you to be informed. JB Crawford Construction General Manager, Alton Hayes, views house plans on a tailgate. We encourage all clients to interview at least three contractors before moving forward with a builder. As you go through that interview process, here are some questions to ask:

  • What is the primary method of communication during my project?
  • How does your company track and document my selections and requests throughout the project?
  • Do you carry general liability insurance, workers compensation, and commercial auto insurance?
  • Which team members will be assigned to work on my project?
  • Do you offer fixed-priced contracts or cost-plus estimates for your projects?
  • How long have you been in business, and how many homes have you completed in the past year?
  • Could you please provide contact information for five most clients, preferably those from 5+ years ago, 2+ years ago, and current projects, for reference purposes?
  • What type of warranty do you offer on your work?
  • Which parts of the project will be subcontracted, and who will be the subcontractors?
  • What trade does your company specialize in?
  • How do you manage change orders during the project?
  • Do you build turnkey homes? If not, what parts of the project will I be responsible for?
